Galena Kandy Kitchen
After visiting Galena in 1973, George Paxton fell in love with the area and countryside. Hoping for a business opportunity away from the hustle and bustle of Chicago, he envisioned a candy store on Galena’s Main Street.
He purchased a building at 100 N. Main and then asked his 89 year old father, who had been a candy maker, all his life, to teach him the art of small batch candy making. George’s father had invented “CHUCKLES” candy in the mid-1930s.
George continues to carry on his father’s legacy by creating confections the old-fashioned way. Galena’s Kandy Kitchen specializes in small batches of hand-dipped chocolates and handmade confections such as “pecan Georgies,” fudge and caramel apples in the fall. The store stocks old-fashioned bulk candy displayed in wooden barrels.
